Stayed in one of the King Royal Suites, overlooking the ocean, specifically room 24. Room was VERY spacious and frankly was bigger than most of the apartments I've lived at in my life. Everything was very clean and well kept. Room came with a LARGE bedroom with a king bed, 4pc bathroom with a jacuzzi tub and separate shower, a large living room and kitchenette. We had an all around comfortable stay. We didn't use the TVs while we were there, but had a chuckle at the ancient CLR/Plasma box TV in the bedroom that should have been in a museum. I had seen folks mention the older TVs in previous reviews, it never bothered us. There is a brand new flat screen in the living room if we had of fancied watching a movie or tv though. Ate at the restaurant on site as well and have to say the food was fantastic! Hats off to the head chef, as I can tell he takes his prep and cooking seriously and does an amazing job at it. There's a full view of the kitchen and you can watch everything get made right before your eyes. We got the seafood chowder (some of the best chowder I've had in Nova Scotia), pesto crusted salmon & vegetables, and the chicken & bacon linguine. Everything was fresh, full of flavor, portioned well and served in reasonable time. I'll say the price was something in-between casual dining and fine dining. Don't expect outrageous prices, but don't expect a cheap roadhouse meal either. It was approx $40-50 per person to eat there with a full meal/app and drink. Unlike typical fine dining, we actually left feeling full and didn't feel jipped by small, overly expensive portions as some places do. Very worth it, and all around happy with the experience.
Decent rooms, good price, super friendly staff. Booked ocean side so that after a day of site seeing we could relax and enjoy a sunset bottle of wine and hit the sheets before starting the Cabot Trail (we chose to go clockwise).
This is a review for Island Sunset Bistro. We arrived to Duck Cove nearby and got recommendations to go to Island Sunset Bistro because it's oceanfront view and the kitchen is open until 9PM. Highly recommend the Rack of Lamb entree. The medium-rare we'd perfect and the glaze was phenomenal. The mint jelly was a very unique touch. Mint and Lamb go together so well. We're grateful we got to eat there so late in the off season (Oct 18).
We stayed here in June. We booked 7 months ahead of time expecting an onsite restaurant as there is only one other restaurant near by. We were disappointed to arrive and to hear that they were not opening this restaurant at all this season. As it was a big selling feature for us, we were very disappointed that we weren't notified of this. We were however happy with the rooms and the staff was very welcoming and accommodating. The rooms are large with everything you would need to cook your own meals
Day 4 of our 5 day stay here and we couldn’t be happier! Our unit is spacious, well appointed and the views are spectacular with the beach steps away. Marie is lovely and very helpful and accommodating with any requests. Perfectly situated 25 minutes from Cabot Cliffs/Links and 20 minutes from Cheticamp, right on the water, it’s the hub to everything. The 3 meals we’ve had here have been great! Expect both a casual setting and presentation of dishes and you won’t be disappointed. The quality of ingredients in every dish we’ve had have been top notch, perfectly prepared, delicious and the service team are wonderful! The open kitchen watching the chefs is an added bonus. The steak and ale night on Tuesday with live fiddling was great! The restaurant isn’t open for breakfast but there is a little gem 5 minutes away at the Duck Cove Inn that opens at 7:30 where you can get everything from a traditional breakfast to homemade fish cakes, baked beans and toast. Highly recommend a visit to Island Sunset. Try the haddock and lobster!
Restaurant food is excellent 5/5 for service and food. Rooms are a little dated, but clean and some of the best views in Cape Breton. Will be back!
